Four Great Audio Blogs

If you haven’t noticed, I enjoy audio: post audio, sound design, field recording, game audio, etc.  If you are here, chances are you do too.  Now as much as I’d love to say you only need one blog to read about audio, and that’s “How’s It Sounding”, that’s a little too egotistical for me.  When I come across a good audio blog, I put it in my blogroll.  Why?  Well let’s find out.

This blog has a great amount of information, behind the scenes posts, tips, and tricks.  Chuck Russom has done quite a bit of work in the world of videogame audio.  Chuck Russom’s audio credits include well know titles such as Call of Duty and God of War II.   Unfortunately, his blog has not been updated in some time.  However, the information on there is still a great multimedia look into the world of game audio.

This has to be one of the best sound design related blogs.  It is not only constantly updated, but it is constantly updated with great information.  There are many sections to look at such as reviews, interviews, and of course tips and tricks.  It also has a great list of independent sound effects libraries.  It is easy to lose yourself in the amount of information they give out for free.  You've got to love the internet for reasons/people like this.

This blog falls into a similar category as Chuck Russom’s.  The information is great, you can learn quite a bit, there are good audio examples and multimedia engagements, but it hasn't been updated in some time.  It’s sad to think that great blogs like this may not be updated again, but what they have is worth reading.  This is the kind of person that will just live his day to day life, but listen to everything, and record it if he likes it; even all the way down to a toilet paper roll holder.

The last one on the list is Engine Audio.  This blog, as most on this list, isn't updated too frequently, but if you are working with the Unreal Development Kit, you should really consider stopping by this blog.  It has some great information about getting the most out of Unreal, as well as how to do some over-the-top crazy things.  Regardless if you are a beginner or an expert in UDK, it’s worth giving them a read.

So there you have it.  Are these blogs the absolute best?  Maybe not, but they are all worth taking the time to check out.  They all have some great and diversified information.  Of course, you can’t forget about the wonderful How’s It Sounding.  Read on and gain knowledge!
